Burrenbeo Walk

Tony Kirby, author of The Burren & the Aran Islands - A Walking Guide, will lead the February walk for Burrenbeo Trust on Sunday 5 February. The title of the walk will be ‘Cronan – Saint, Shrine, Chapel, Well’ and the highlight will be a visit to the monastic site of St Cronan with outstanding features including a holy well, a reliquary shrine and one of the region’s finest Romanesque churches. The walk will feature commentaries on the origin, function and decline of holy wells; the monk and saint Cronan; the intensity of ecclesiastical settlement in the Burren; and pilgrim archaeology. Meet at 2.00 pm outside the NUI research station in Carran.
