Irish CheeseBoard Celebration

Love cheese? Then head along to the Cafe at the Honest2Goodness market on Saturday 4 February at 11 a.m. where you can sample lots of Irish cheeses, chat to the producers, taste matching wines, get advice on how to create the perfect cheeseboard and listen to a cheesey talk by Glynn Anderson! Glynn co-wrote Farmhouse Cheeses of Ireland with John McLaughlin - it's a fascinating look at Ireland's cheeses and cheesemakers with lots of photos, descriptions and contact info. (I'm currently working my way through the Contents page, tasting and rating cheeses!)

The cheeses featured in the book are from the four corners of Ireland, including cheese coated in ash, blue cheese, seaweed cheese, sheep’s cheese, goat cheese and biodynamic cheese. Other products that are mentioned include goat ice cream and lullaby milk which is produced before daylight and is said to help with insomnia!

Also featured:

  • Béal Organic Cheese which helped owner Kate Carmody gain successful investment on Dragons’ Den for her business.
  • The first Irish buffalo mozzarella cheese, produced by Toby Simmonds and John Lynch in Cork.
  • Ed Harper, an incredible man with a fascinating story who has worked with goats since the age of 7, has lived on Clear Island off the Cork coast for 35 years and is also blind.
