Polar historian Michael Smith and author Ed O'Loughlin discuss the differences and challenges of writing non-fiction and fiction books on the history of Polar exploration. Michael is an authority on Polar affairs who has highlighted a half-forgotten chapter in Irish history through his books on Tom Crean, Ernest Shackleton and other Irish explorers. Ed's latest book, Minds of Winter, moves between a frozen present and an ever-thawing past, and from the minds of two present-day wanderers to the lives of some of polar history's most enigmatic figures. This fascinating discussion between the two genres and questions from the audience will be chaired by Joe O'Farrell, the respected trustee of the Athy Heritage Museum and long-time Polar enthusiast.
It's on at 1.30 p.m. on Sunday 26 March in the Pavilion Theatre and tickets are €10. Click here to book.
