Snippets from an Interview with Weeshie!
What lengths did you have to go to, to write the book?
Research is the one vital element and having the facts 100% correct is a must. Discipline is another, and sitting down day after day, hour after hour requires this massive commitment. Belief in ones self is very important and recalling memories from the mists of time is a very special gift, I believe. I found this when writing my memories recently, “My beautiful Obsession, Chasing the Kerry Dream” for The Collins Press necessitated setting lots of time aside for over three years.
What Match brings back the most memories for you and why?
The 1955 All Ireland football final, as it was my very first game and the first time I saw Croke Park. Dublin was the so called “Unbeatable Dublin Machine” and Kerry had no chance but before a massive crowd, the gates were broken down, Kerry won. That day has remained etched forever in my memory and I can still recall every detail in the minds eye.
Tell us about what made you want to become a writer?
I really began my writing career when I became P. R. O. for my football club Killarney Legion, which necessitated writing notes for all the local media. This was a great grounding and got me interested. As the years progressed I amassed a lot of lifts experience both in sport and life in general and I felt that all I wanted to do was just write!
